As it looks like you figured out already, it's magical. I gave msk a
configure.ac patch a release or a few ago that just uses bsd/string.h if
present just as it will do with a system strl.h if it finds it. I would
encourage anyone packaging for a distro that has libbsd to use it in place of
the convenience copy provided with opendkim. It's pretty widely available.
