I don't have libjansson installed. I'll be adding that as a new
requirement for my build script.

Is the removal of libxml2 why my system now needs curl to build and
complains that it doesn't find it? Is that why it also now requires
libjansson?

On CentOS, curl-devel provides a 'curl-config' instead of a .pc file
for pkg-config:

[root_at_smtp4 ~]# pkg-config --libs curl
Package curl was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `curl.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'curl' found
[root_at_smtp4 ~]# curl-config --libs
-L/usr/lib64 -lcurl -L/usr/kerberos/lib -L/usr/kerberos/lib64 -lssl
-lcrypto -lgssapi_krb5 -lkrb5 -lcom_err -lk5crypto -ldl -lz
-lgssapi_krb5 -lkrb5 -lk5crypto -lcom_err -lresolv -L/usr/kerberos/lib
-L/usr/kerberos/lib64 -lidn -lssl -lcrypto -lssl -lcrypto
-lgssapi_krb5 -lkrb5 -lcom_err -lk5crypto -ldl -lz -lz
