I suspect there was an import problem rather than a generation problem:

medusa[2354]% opendkim/opendkim-genkey
medusa[2355]% cat default.txt
default._domainkey IN TXT ( "v=DKIM1; k=rsa; "
           "p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQDX9gpB+k1lpTNBpFm85TcxdyfRJoifuOQ85edMHkn6JAs/P0BWRUi+Yc10YYl2KTekGSPe+sb71eMxmyMoJSmZEQgiaQo95SsVvFYcoVkYnE/23o6aF0hD8khSadewFXZVbGzuT2pxPgmpMbbwd8dg9vjC/MXuTE3YFxL9X49VawIDAQAB"
) ; ----- DKIM key default for example.com

What arguments did you give for opendkim-genkey?
