2.4.0 Beta0 problem building on RedHat

On Fedora 12 box did:

./configure --enable-stats

Everything going fine until:

checking for LIBMEMCACHED... no
configure: WARNING: pkg-config for libmemcached not found, trying
manual search...
checking for libmemcached... configure: error: not found

Exact same issue on a CentOS 5.6 box, too.
