Assuming we do decide to go down this path, what's better:
a) Document everything that might be there, and then just label optional things with some "this may not actually be available; check the '-V' output" tag, and have static man pages (so recompiling doesn't require reinstalling man pages)
b) Regenerate man pages based on "--enable" items and require that they be reinstalled each time
